10 Ways to Reward Your Team (That Aren’t Pizza Parties)

By October 16, 2024No Comments

The US financial year has wrapped up (finally!), and your team has survived the marathon of spreadsheets, tax filings, and late nights. You could order another pizza, but at this point, they probably deserve something with a little more flair. So, here are 10 ways to reward your team after the grind (and yes, none of them involve pizza).

1. The “Leave Early” Card

The financial year may be over, but the exhaustion is real. Give your team the gift of an early finish. Hand out “leave early” cards—no strings attached, no guilt trips. Just a couple of precious hours back in their day to enjoy life outside of Excel.

2. Lunch Roulette

It’s time to take things up a notch. Skip the same-old sandwiches and set your team up for a “lunch roulette” experience. Each week, let a different team member pick the restaurant or cater lunch. Think fancy sushi, gourmet burgers, or that new swanky place no one’s tried yet. If they’re feeling adventurous, throw in a cocktail or two—because let’s be real, they’ve earned it.

3. The Ultimate WFH Day

Reward your team with the one thing every office worker dreams of: a guilt-free work-from-home day. No meetings, no interruptions, just them, their laptop, and maybe their bed (we won’t judge). Let them set up shop in their favorite cozy spot, and they might just feel refreshed enough to tackle that inbox with enthusiasm. Or at least hit “archive.”

4. “No Meetings” Day

You know what’s better than pizza? A full day without meetings. Declare a “No Meetings Day” and let your team bask in the glory of uninterrupted work time. They’ll thank you for the break from Zoom fatigue, and who knows, maybe actual work will get done. Plus, no “quick syncs” allowed—it’s practically a holiday.

5. Happy Hour with a Twist

Forget the 4 PM pizza break. How about taking your team out for an end-of-year happy hour at a local bar or brewery? Add a twist by letting everyone pick a cocktail they’ve never tried before. It’s a fun way to unwind and celebrate a job well done—without having to explain why someone’s margarita looks suspiciously like a spreadsheet.

6. Spa Vouchers

Let’s face it: your team’s probably feeling like they’ve been run over by the tax train. Reward them with spa vouchers for some well-deserved relaxation. Whether it’s a massage, a facial, or even just some time in a hot tub, nothing says “thank you” quite like pampering away the stress of the fiscal year.

7. Private Movie Screening

No more staff parties in the break room. Rent out a private cinema and let your team enjoy a movie of their choice—popcorn, drinks, and recliner chairs included. Bonus points if you turn it into a movie marathon (just make sure you’re not subjecting them to an accounting-themed film… unless you really hate them).

8. High-End Wine or Whisky Tasting

Who said accountants don’t know how to have fun? Take the team out for a high-end wine or whisky tasting session at a local bar, winery, or distillery. It’s a classy way to celebrate the end of the financial year while giving your team something a little more sophisticated than a pizza slice. Plus, it’ll make for some great conversation (and maybe even some new office traditions).

9. Fancy Dinner Out

No pizza, no cheap takeout. Treat your team to a proper dinner at a high-end restaurant. Choose somewhere they’d normally never splurge on, and let them indulge in gourmet meals and cocktails. It’s the perfect way to say, “Thanks for all the hard work—and for keeping those balance sheets intact.”

10. Financial Year-End “Oscar” Awards

If you’re going to hand out awards, make them count. Host your very own “Financial Year-End Oscars” with categories like “Best Spreadsheet Wizard,” “Most Likely to Hit Submit at 11:59 PM,” and “Most Creative Use of a Tax Deduction.” Add champagne and make it a black-tie event (or a no-tie event, depending on your crew). It’s a fun way to celebrate without involving cardboard trophies or leftover pizza boxes.
