Another Xerocon has been and gone. This was the fourth time that I’ve attended New Zealand’s premier event for accountants. It was the first year that I’ve attended solely as a delegate and not been on an exhibition stand, so I enjoyed looking in on the various speakers at the conference, meeting people on the exhibition stands and talking with our customers. I also had the odd chat to people interested in getting on to SuiteFiles.
One of the goals that I had for my time at Xerocon was to grab five of our existing customers and try out an experiment with a selfie stick and video on my phone. I was after a few video testimonials. And I have to say that I was pretty happy with the experiment. My hand was a lot more stable than I expected holding the selfie stick (thanks Kim for loaning that to me) and the video and sound quality on my phone were pretty good. We’ve been releasing one of these short testimonials every few days since last week, which you can view on our Youtube channel. You can view the first three with Capri Management,Laurenson CA, and Stephenson Thorner there. Thanks to those who took part. If anyone else is interested in doing something like this let me know and we’ll see what we can do to make it happen.
I really enjoyed a couple of the speakers. Graham Lowe was always going to be of interest given my insane interest in sport. A couple of things he said resonated:
- “Be yourself, everyone else is taken” – trust yourself and don’t try to be anything else
- “Kick for the sea gulls” – they hang out in the open spaces on a field where the opportunities are
- “Practice till the lights go out” – success is the product of hard work, not luck or natural skill – though they do help if you can get them
Andy Lark’s talk on marketing was also great, particularly around how businesses that offer the best experiences will win. That’s what we’re trying to do here at The Full Suite!
A few of our customers had success in the awards as well. A big congratulations to:
- Rightway – National Practice of the Year
- Enable Business – Accounting Partner of the Year
And a little bird told me that IIF were runner up in the 100% Xero Award.
Thanks to Xero for another slick event – too much fun!
